Sov Changes
Come November, New Eden will be potentially thrown into chaos. I suspect this because the upcoming sovereignty changes will drastically overhaul how territory is held in EVE Online and will make 0.0 much more accessible to the myriad lowsec corporations and alliances with designs on greatness.
I, for one, welcome the change, assuming CCP don’t fuck it up and break everything. While it will not eliminate the phenomenon of New Eden’s power blocs holding vast swathes of space:
it will do something to counteract the tendency for 0.0 to be occupied solely by established alliances and lower the barriers to entry somewhat.
See, for instance, the amount of space Atlas or AAA hold. Atlas hold about 3 odd regions. AAA – about the same. The amount space each alliance has compared to the number of members in that alliance is huge. If you travel to 0.0, you will notice that most of 0.0 space is utterly empty with activity concentrated in a few select systems which either have good truesec or a good number of belts/ice that can be mined for profit, fuel or minerals for production and the like.
Theme Issues
It would appear my themes have broken overnight with no intervention on my behalf…
I will now spend a long time trying to fix it so bear with me… In the meantime:
Police Slog Through 40,000 Insipid Party Pics To Find Cause Of Dorm Fire
Update: I said “sod it” to the old theme and just switched it outright. Fuck if I can be bothered to trawl through a hybrid of PHP and CSS to fix whatever was causing all images and styles to break…
Hope you like it
Flight Of The Burkey

I’ve been digging through our forum archives and have come across a bunch of funny ‘fanfics’, if you can call them that, harking back to the Syndicate days. So I share one of them with you now.
Goonswarm presents: Flight of the Burkey
Remedial stood upon the main observation deck of S-U8A4 V – Moon 1, Ishukone Corporation Factory, giggling as the Band of Brothers formed a blockade around the undock point. A few frigates were still trying to escape, he noticed. Cowards. Traitors. Faggots.
Remedial turned away and, muttering to himself of cowards and faggots, screamed for another “burkey” (The burkey was something he had devised himself, and that he was particularly proud of: A whole turkey, wrapped in bacon, then deep-fried. Remedial had touted it as the most delicious foodstuff known to man and had attempted to market the idea in Verge Vendor, although rumours of it being produced via slave labour destroyed any potential customers in the mainly Gallente region.)
The beauty of organization!

I found this on the Web and thought I’d share it with the world.
I’m thinking of re-drawing this in a larger format and printing it as a poster because it is frankly AWESOME.
Will let you know how that turns out, stay tuned!
Cycling in London
I’ve had my new Carrera Vanquish for about a month now and it’s a thoroughly awesome bike. Goes like the wind (compared to my old mountain bike), handles well, is narrow enough to fit between cars and buses and is generally an awesome runaround.
There was some fun drama with Halfords because they’re incompetent, but that’s neither here nor there.
What I’d like to talk about is what I believe to be the greatest threat to cyclists and the public perception of cycling in a city: terminal stupidity.
We’ve all heard horror stories about cycle couriers killing innocent children as they run a red light and run little Johny’s face over, but that’s a minor irritation compared to the sheer lack of common sense and intelligence that I’ve seen drivers, pedestrians and fellow push-bike users display of late.
My top 5 pet hates, then, in no particular order:
- Not using your brain when overtaking
Cultural Differences
As those of you not living under a digital rock may be aware, BoB is no longer.
See: http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=990381 if you do exist under 10 thousand tons of e-rock.
Since then, we have made a beeline (hah, bee joke!) for Delve, understandably, along with the rest of our motley crew of allies (Pandemic Legion, Razor, ZAF, UNL, etc), well-wishers (everyone that hates BoB) and space ninjas (hi TCF!). Since then, we have been steadily gaining ground in systems in Delve.
And, as always, The Mittani has kept us fed with verbose pornography comprised of intel and spy and forum dumps of the delicious tears of our enemies and their associated pets and corporations. It’s certainly been fun reading about what our enemies think of us and the former Band of Brothers, their supposed allies!
These pieces in particular caught my eye:
Yeah, warping long range support to the gate at 0km… brilliant stuff right there. But on the other hand, do we have guys in SCA who have experience in managing such big fleets and are willing to step up to the task?
3) The GBC fleets are making use of inexperienced FC’s.
Canary Wharf Panorama Take II
Exciting stuff!
Went to the South Bank yesterday to re-take this shot:
And here is the result:
Annoyingly, I’ll have to do this one again because there was a massive East wind which kept shaking the camera even when it was bolted to a tripod. Rather upsetting, I have to say!
Oh and AutoStitch fucked it up further by compressing the JPEG result of stitching together the 8 photos I snapped. So that needs to be re-done.
SE London really is beautiful!
Anyway, back to work.
Summer Of House Volume 1
Hey!
Just finished a quick & dirty mix of some of my current favourite house tunes.
Listen here: http://mortworks.net/files/wp/poolski_summer_of_house.mp3

Waiting on a pair of these babies to turn up magically on my doorstep and then I’ll be able to FINALLY rid myself of that infernal piece of shit that is the Behringer BCD3000. Burn it. That thing is utterly worthless and I’m surprised I managed to mix anything on it!
Oh and a one of these might be in the goody bag!

New to 0.0?
I’ve been reading about, and harshly ending the dreams of, small 0.0 alliances along with the rest of Goonfleet for a while now and a pattern has emerged that has proven true for a lot of them.
They claimed to possess power far greater than they actually did and inflated their egos far beyond what is reasonable, acceptable and, frankly, healthy.
Case in point: Triumvirate – a 0.0 alliance which has, admittedly existed in the North for a good while, since the D2 wars. While they have been around for a while, they seem not to have learned the basic rule of survival in 0.0
If you are a starting up in a hostile environment, don’t draw unnecessary attention to yourself.
This is important and you can see this happening in the real world where resources are scarce and competition abounds. If you draw undue attention to your actions then chances are that someone who is after the same resources are you will step in and interfere in a decidedly negative way.

This translates to EVE like so:
- Small lowsec mission running/pirate/PvP corp decides to venture into the brave new world beyond CONCORD and secure space.
Black and Gold
What could possibly be the catchiest dance tune of the month is about to hit the shelves in the UK. It’s the new Black and Gold by Sam Sparro, an australian musical genius.
I am quite upset that I missed his performance a few weeks ago in London. I’d have liked to go.
Anyway, here is the track in question!
